Bristol Mosquito Repellent Patio Shield Lantern Review

This Thermacell lantern can deter mosquitoes, black flies, gnats, and other flying and biting insects. It does this by creating an insect-free zone measuring 15 sq. ft. (4.5 sq. m) around itself. It’s perfectly suited for home garden use. You can use it for summer picnics, for example, or to simply deter mosquitoes while gardening. It’s also great for camping and fishing trips in forests full of mosquitoes and other insects. You can even use it if small children and pets are around.

Even though it’s a mosquito repellent lamp, it doesn’t create any odor. What’s even more surprising is that this lamp is silent, too. Many products like this produce an aggravating buzzing sound when turned on, but the Thermacell lantern is completely silent at all times. This lantern is also very lightweight, so you can easily transport it to wherever it’s needed, changing its location as many times a day as you wish.

Not only does it repel insects and mosquitoes, but it also provides a lovely ambient light. The LED lights have separate controls, so you can choose if you want to add an ambient glow to your party or simply repel pests. The Thermacell lantern is battery operated, so you don’t need to plug it in. This makes it perfect for camping trips when you’ll be in forested areas without access to electricity.

As we’ve already mentioned, this Thermacell mosquito lantern is battery operated. You need three AAA batteries for it to work, which are not included. It also needs a butane cartridge and repellent mats. One butane cartridge will last 12 hours while each repellent mat lasts 4 hours before they’ll need to be replaced.

The lantern comes with 1 butane cartridge and 3 repellent mats, meaning that you can use it for 12 hours. You won’t have to replace this lantern after just 12 hours of use, though. You can easily buy Thermacell refills, which are sold separately, and reuse your lantern over and over again.

  • Odorless
  • Silent
  • Battery operated
  • Lightweight and easily portable
  • No open flame
  • Deters mosquitoes and insects
  • A great source of ambient light

  • Butane refill lasts for up to twelve hours
  • Repelling mats need to be changed every four hours
  • Altitudes above 4500 ft. (1371.6 m) can affect the lantern’s performance.

All in all, this refillable Thermacell mosquito repellent lantern is a great investment if you like spending time outdoors. It will work well whether camping, fishing, hiking, or even just in your own yard, detering mosquitoes and other flying insects over a radius of 15 sq. ft. (4.5 sq. m). This lantern uses butane cartridges, which lasts up to 12 hours, and repellent mats, which you’ll have to replace every 4 hours. You’ll know it’s time to replace them when their color changes from blue to white.

While this lantern is great for outdoor use, if you decide to go hiking and take it with you, you should know that altitudes above 4500 ft. (1371.6 m) can affect its performance. But if you stay under 4500 feet, the lantern will have no problems staying lit. Since it doesn’t need electricity, it’ll be perfect for camping, fishing, or even for the furthest corner in your garden.

Overall, this Thermacell mosquito repellent lantern will not only protect you from mosquito bites, but it also looks great and can be used anywhere you want.

Is the roadeavour lantern a mosquito repellent as well?

As far as I know the Roadeavour lanterns are not mosquito repellents.

Had it for about 6 months, worked fine, now it won’t light and the batteries are new and the butane tank is full

You should try contacting Thermacell about your problem since the product comes with a 1-year satisfaction guarantee.

Once it’s turned on, can you turn it off before the 12 hours & use it at another time?

    That shouldn’t be a problem.

Yes, there is a off, on, and start button. I just bought this last night and tried it tonight. It’s pretty simple to get it going. The instructions are easy to follow. So far after about 1 hour I havent had any mosquito bites!

Are Sandflies (Midgie’s) repelled by this lantern specifically as well as Mosquitoes?

Since the Thermacell lantern repels mosquitoes, black flies as well as other biting insects it should be efficient against such insects as sandflies and no-see-ums as well.

I worry that the device will harm butterflies and maybe hummingbirds that are at the perimeter of my porch (or other area). I called the company and they were very pleasant and emailed me to say that their system only prevents the mosquitos from locating their food source and does not actually kill them, and is not harmful to bees and butterflies. They have tested the product to determine this, they said. I want more assurance but did not find anything but warnings about the synthethetic Chrysanthemum oil when I googled that ingredient.I figured there may be quite a difference in a thin vapor or mist as opposed to actually spraying your plants, etc. with a stronger mixture. Or when it comes to that – spraying yourself with repellant! Please help me find the correct information so I can make informed decisions. Thanks

If the manufacturer says the product is safe and tested, I would trust the said information. We are in no position to doubt that the company is being truthful towards their customers.

Turning the top works, changed batteries but latern isn’t giving me light anymore when i turn bottom switch on. Can i change bulbs?

If this happened after changing the batteries, is it possible the new batteries might be at fault? Perhaps you inserted them wrong, or they’re generally not working?

Also, check whether the cartridge is inserted properly, or that it’s not in a need for a refill.

If you’d still like to change the bulbs, you should contact the manufacturer to ask about this possibility. We have no info about whether or not it’s something you can do on your own.

What about repelling sweat bees?

The label says it repels mosquitoes and other flying insects. However, it does not specifically mention sweat bees.
