About DynaTrap
Juan Rocha founded DynaTrap in 2006. It grew rapidly and became a big shot at insect control. Its mission is to design innovative and effective solutions to protect people from troublesome or dangerous insects.
They provide control tools, advice, and award-winning solutions to protect your property from insect pests.
What are DynaTraps made for?
Dyna Traps were made for catching problematic insects like mosquitoes, flies, and wasps. The traps are not supposed to attract honey bees and other beneficial insects.
How does DynaTrap work?
Most DynaTrap products have 3 main components for insect protection. These components make their trap effective.
First component: Insect attractants
DynaTrap products use UV bulbs. UV lights lure most insect species, including the problematic ones like wasps, flies, and moths. It’s in their instinct since UV lights are their primary way of tracking food. Warm light as a trap component is an effective way of attracting them.
Its surface is quoted in titanium dioxide, which creates carbon dioxide. This feature is used to lure mosquitoes since UV lights alone aren’t enough to attract them. This feature is helpful for insects that don’t get attracted much by UV lights, like the Asian Tiger Mosquito.
Carbon Dioxide is mainly used for luring blood-sucking insects like mosquitoes. They use Carbon Dioxide to find hosts to feed on. Even the American Mosquito Control Association supports using Carbon Dioxide-based traps when combined with other mosquito control strategies.
Research from Shimoda and Honda from the Journal of Entomology and Zoology supports the role of UV light-based traps for insect pest control. Artificial lights are effective at attracting many insects.
Second component: Powerful Vacuum fan for insects
The powerful vacuum fan draws the insects in once they’re close enough. The bugs aren’t powerful enough to get away from the trap. The fans are quiet and don’t bother anyone, unlike bug zappers.
Third component: Trap cage
Once the insects are inside the cage, they can’t get out. They designed it so that insects can get in but not out. Once in a while or when the trap is full, you need to take out the cage and throw the insects in the trash.
Where should I place my DynaTrap?
Similar to propane mosquito traps, there are two optimal places where you can place DynaTrap insect traps. Those are the insect breeding areas and people areas.
Place them near puddles or where freshwater gather, reasonable distances from nests and bushes for breeding areas.
For people areas, place them in your house or property where you spotted the insects. Outside of the house, you can place them on patios and decks. Place them 20-40 ft away from people. Being near the trap can be trouble since insects are attracted to the area.
DynaTrap consumer reports – What do consumers say about DynaTraps?
DynaTrap works very well when used correctly in trapping mosquitoes and other troublesome insects. The DynaTrap 3-way protection has helped most customers deal with their mosquito problems. However, most good DynaTrap reviews were from those who followed the instructions correctly and waited for at least three weeks for it to work.
There are drawbacks when using this product. Many negative experiences were from the customers finding dead moths instead of dead mosquitoes in the retaining cage. The main component of DynaTrap products is UV lights which most moths like. Moths are among the least dangerous and troublesome insects it claims to catch.
Another drawback is that it isn’t practical for many to plug the trap 20-40 ft away from where people stay. This isn’t the case if you’re going to use the DynaTrap DT3039W-Flylight-TrapI since it’s also made for indoor use.
It’s a good product if you can make full use of it. But unfortunately, there are cases where insects don’t get attracted to your trap. Maybe external factors like easy access to food, wrong placement, etc.
Alternatives to DynaTrap
Here are alternative insect traps if you’re looking for something different in terms of features.
Portable alternative – Katchy Indoor Insect Trap
Katchy insect trap is a portable alternative for catching mosquitoes, flies, and gnats. This product is slightly bigger than DynaTrap Flylight-Insect-White-Plugins. It has more features but doesn’t have the extra outlets its DynaTrap counterpart has. If you’re looking for more functions and convenience in operating the trap, this product is for you.
Outdoor Alternative – ZAP IT! Bug Zapper
A maintenance-free bug zapper option. It doesn’t use much energy, saving you money long term. The ZAP IT! Bug Zapper uses shocks to kill insects. If you don’t mind the sound a bug zapper makes, then this product is for you.
Indoor Alternative – Wall-Mounted Black & Decker Fly & Bug Glue Trap
This product is an indoor wall-mounted option similar to the DynaTrap Flylight-Insect-White-Plugins. Use UV light to attract insects. There is a sticky non-toxic glue inside that catches and traps the insects. If you’re looking for a good indoor wall-mounted trap, this product is for you.
Frequently asked questions

The lights can last for around four months before needing replacement. However, you may need to contact customer support if the light lasts for shorter periods.
Products like Fly Light Plugins need to replace the glue cards once they get full.
Does the DynaTrap actually work?
Yes, it makes use of UV lights and Carbon Dioxide. UV lights are effective for most problematic insects like Flies, wasps, and moths. For maximum effectiveness, follow its instructions of use.
How to clean DynaTrap?
There are cleaning instructions in manuals that come with the product. Here’s a summary of those instructions.
For 3-way Protection products (with fan, UV lights, and trap cage).
You can use soap and water to clean the cage. Use the cleaning brush provided by DynaTrap to clean the fan blades. You can also use a wet washcloth or a cleaning wipe to clean the dust and insect parts accumulated on the fan.
Clean your trap every 1-3 weeks or when it’s complete. Throw the insects that accumulated in the trap away. If you’re using attractants, remove them when you’re preparing or storing your trap. This is to prevent insects from getting lured while it’s inactive.
You can soak the retaining cage in regular dish soap and water. As for the fan blades, you can use the provided cleaning brush, a wet washcloth, or a cleaning wipe to clean and dust off the remaining debris.
Store it in a safe and dry place when not in use. Please cover your trap to prevent dust and moisture from accumulating. Leaving your trap open can also make insects use it as a nest.
Stock up on compatible bulbs for your trap. If the bulbs stop working, you can replace them immediately.
All you need to do is replace the cards and the UV bulb for traps that use glue cards like the fly lights.
